Sint Maarten and Saint-Martin share one 37-square-mile island with no border crossing between them. Guests can have lunch at a beachfront restaurant in Grand Case on the French side and be back at a Dutch-side resort for sunset, giving the wedding week a genuinely varied character that a single-country destination cannot replicate.
Maho Beach sits directly under the approach path to Princess Juliana Airport. Watching commercial jets pass at very low altitude over the beach is a memorable and uniquely Sint Maarten experience that guests consistently mention as one of the highlights of the trip.
Sonesta Ocean Point and the wider Maho resort complex offer strong adults-only all-inclusive options with established wedding programmes. The quality at the top of the Sint Maarten resort market is consistently strong for destination weddings of 20 to 80 guests.
When is the best time to get married in Sint Maarten?
December through April is dry season and the ideal window for outdoor ceremonies. January and February offer the most consistently reliable conditions. The island has some hurricane exposure during the August through October period, with September being the historically highest-risk month.
The Sint Maarten resort corridor is compact enough that most guests can make the most of both sides of the island year-round, but for outdoor ceremony planning, the December through April window is strongly recommended. Early December and late April offer good weather with lower peak-season pricing.
Do US citizens need a visa to get married in Sint Maarten?
No. US citizens can enter both Sint Maarten, the Dutch side, and Saint-Martin, the French side, visa-free with a valid US passport. No visa application, no advance documentation, and no minimum residency period before the ceremony. Most other nationalities including UK, EU, and Canadian guests can also enter without a visa.
For a legal ceremony on the Dutch side, a marriage licence must be obtained from the Civil Registry office. Requirements include valid passports and certified birth certificates for both parties. What a gorgeous resort! From the swings at the bar to the numerous pools… Many thanks to Zandra and Vacationeeze for planning such a dream vacation to El Dorado Maroma in Playa del Carmen last November! It was a beautiful location and the organized events were perfect! We had a delicious dinner on the beach that was beautifully decorated with flowers and lights… just magical! Thank you Zandra, for picking such an amazing resort - we loved the Mexican night, the tequila tasting, and the mariachis! We will be returning for more advice from you in the future!!

We quickly decided we didn't want to do a local wedding, so we started looking up YouTube videos of destination weddings. We found Jack and fell in love with him. We loved how he was a no nonsense type of guy that wasn't trying to sell anyone on anything, he was just stating facts and his knowledge. Princess Juliana International Airport is approximately 3 to 4 hours from most US East Coast cities by direct flight. Miami is around 3 hours. New York is approximately 3.5 to 4 hours. American Airlines and United both operate direct routes.
