Why Sint Maarten

Why couples choose Sint Maarten for their destination wedding

Two islands in one visit

Sint Maarten and Saint-Martin share one 37-square-mile island with no border crossing between them. Guests can have lunch at a beachfront restaurant in Grand Case on the French side and be back at a Dutch-side resort for sunset, giving the wedding week a genuinely varied character that a single-country destination cannot replicate.

Maho Beach as one of the Caribbean's most unique experiences

Maho Beach sits directly under the approach path to Princess Juliana Airport. Watching commercial jets pass at very low altitude over the beach is a memorable and uniquely Sint Maarten experience that guests consistently mention as one of the highlights of the trip.

Strong all-inclusive options

Sonesta Ocean Point and the wider Maho resort complex offer strong adults-only all-inclusive options with established wedding programmes. The quality at the top of the Sint Maarten resort market is consistently strong for destination weddings of 20 to 80 guests.

When is the best time to get married in Sint Maarten?

December through April is dry season and the ideal window for outdoor ceremonies. January and February offer the most consistently reliable conditions. The island has some hurricane exposure during the August through October period, with September being the historically highest-risk month.

The Sint Maarten resort corridor is compact enough that most guests can make the most of both sides of the island year-round, but for outdoor ceremony planning, the December through April window is strongly recommended. Early December and late April offer good weather with lower peak-season pricing.

Do US citizens need a visa to get married in Sint Maarten?

No. US citizens can enter both Sint Maarten, the Dutch side, and Saint-Martin, the French side, visa-free with a valid US passport. No visa application, no advance documentation, and no minimum residency period before the ceremony. Most other nationalities including UK, EU, and Canadian guests can also enter without a visa.

For a legal ceremony on the Dutch side, a marriage licence must be obtained from the Civil Registry office. Requirements include valid passports and certified birth certificates for both parties. We advise on the full documentation as part of our planning process and can connect you with a local coordinator who handles the civil registry process regularly.

What couples say about their Sint Maarten wedding

Things to do in Sint Maarten for your wedding guests

Maho Beach plane spotting

The beach directly under the approach path to Princess Juliana Airport is one of the most unusual beaches in the world. Watching jets land overhead at low altitude is a genuinely memorable experience for wedding guests.

Grand Case dining evening

The village of Grand Case on the French side of the island is known as the gourmet capital of the Caribbean. A group dinner at one of the beachfront restaurants here is a wedding week highlight.

Island catamaran day sail

A full-day catamaran trip around the island visiting snorkelling spots, hidden bays, and the French side coastline is one of the most popular group excursions in St. Maarten.

Loterie Farm eco-adventure

Loterie Farm is a 150-acre private nature reserve on Pic Paradis, the highest point on the island, offering zip-lining through the rainforest canopy, nature trails, a spring-fed pool and bar, and one of the most scenic settings on St. Maarten.

Marigot waterfront and market

Marigot is the capital of the French side of the island, with a picturesque waterfront, a weekly open-air market selling local crafts and spices, and a fort with panoramic views over the Caribbean. A morning in Marigot followed by lunch at a waterfront café gives wedding groups a genuinely French Caribbean experience.

Orient Beach day trip

Orient Beach on the French side of the island is one of the most lively and distinctive beaches in the Caribbean — a long arc of golden sand lined with beach bars, restaurants, and water sports. The 15-minute drive from Dutch-side resorts makes it a natural wedding week day trip.
