Negril faces due west, which means the sun sets directly over the water from both Seven Mile Beach and the West End cliffs. The golden-hour light here is genuinely unlike anything on the north or east coast of Jamaica, and couples who schedule their ceremony for 5pm consistently say the photography exceeded every expectation.
Seven Mile Beach is one of the longest stretches of uninterrupted white sand in the Caribbean and remains significantly less crowded than comparable beaches in Cancun or Punta Cana. The beach's west-facing orientation means the entire ceremony setting is bathed in warm evening light.
The Caves resort on the West End cliffs offers a genuinely unusual wedding setting, a collection of cliff-top and cave spaces above the turquoise Caribbean that exists nowhere else in Jamaica. For couples who want their ceremony location to be something guests have never experienced before, the West End is the answer.
When is the best time to get married in Negril?
December through April is the ideal window, dry, warm, and with the most reliable sunset conditions. This is when Negril is at its best and the combination of clear skies and the west-facing beach creates the extraordinary golden-hour photography conditions the destination is known for.
November and May are shoulder season with excellent weather at lower rates. June through October is rainy season. Negril's west coast position can make it more directly exposed to weather systems than the north coast resorts in Montego Bay, so avoiding the June through October window is particularly important here.

What are the legal requirements for getting married in Jamaica?
Jamaica has the simplest legal wedding process of any Caribbean destination we work with. Both parties need to be on the island for at least 24 hours before the ceremony. Required documents are valid passports and original certified birth certificates. No premarital blood test is required. If either partner has been previously divorced, a decree absolute is needed. If widowed, a death certificate is required.
The marriage licence is obtained locally through a licensed officiant, who handles the paperwork on your behalf. The entire process is significantly more straightforward than Mexico or the Dominican Republic, and it is why more couples actually legalise their marriage in Jamaica than at most other international destinations.

What is the West End in Negril?
The West End is the rocky cliff coastline on the western tip of Negril, a few kilometres from Seven Mile Beach. Unlike the flat sand beach of the main resort area, the West End has dramatic limestone cliffs dropping directly into the turquoise Caribbean. It is home to boutique hotels, cliff-jumping spots, and some of Jamaica's most celebrated sunset bars. The Caves resort is the most notable wedding venue in this area.
Is Negril good for a destination wedding?
Negril is excellent for couples who prioritise sunsets, a relaxed atmosphere, and a more intimate scale than Montego Bay. The west-facing beach produces some of the most extraordinary golden-hour photography conditions in the Caribbean. The resort selection is smaller but focused, and the overall experience is noticeably more laid-back.
How far is Negril from Montego Bay airport?
Negril is approximately 90 minutes by road from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. There is no direct airport in Negril, so all guests travel via Montego Bay. The transfer time is worth considering for guests on short trips, though resort shuttles handle the journey smoothly.
When is the best time for a Negril wedding?
December through April is the ideal window, dry, warm, and with the best sunset conditions. November and May are shoulder season with good weather and lower rates. June through October is rainy season. Negril's west coast position can make it more exposed to direct weather systems than the north coast resorts in Montego Bay during the rainy season.
Is Negril better than Montego Bay for a wedding?
Neither is universally better. Montego Bay has more resort choice, better flight access, and handles large groups more efficiently. Negril has better sunsets, a more intimate and laid-back atmosphere, and the West End cliffs as a distinctive ceremony option. Choose Montego Bay if group logistics and resort variety are priorities. Choose Negril if atmosphere, sunsets, and a more relaxed pace matter most.
What are the best resorts in Negril for weddings?
Sandals Negril is the flagship adults-only all-inclusive with a strong couples-focused wedding programme along Seven Mile Beach. Beaches Negril is the family-friendly equivalent. For boutique options, The Caves on the West End cliffs offers one of the most visually distinctive wedding settings in Jamaica, a collection of cliff-top and cave spaces above the turquoise sea.
