How much does a Mexico destination wedding cost?

Jared Benoff

TL:DR;

Destination wedding prices are vague because resorts quote based on variables, but in Mexico a realistic 5‑star destination wedding for 40–80 guests usually costs couples about $8,000–$18,000, with guests paying roughly $900–$1,900 each for a 5‑night all‑inclusive stay.

Why destination wedding costs are so hard to find online

Resort websites are deliberately vague about pricing. "Starting from" language, calls to action that require a consultation before you see any numbers, and package descriptions that list inclusions without prices are the norm. The reason is simple: resorts want to have a conversation before quoting, because the variables (guest count, package tier, season, room category) affect the price significantly.

This guide gives you the real numbers based on what we actually book.

The couple's direct costs

Ceremony package

Complimentary packages are available at most 5-star all-inclusive resorts when the room block minimum is met. Typical threshold: 10–15 rooms for 5 nights. Above this threshold, the ceremony package itself costs the couple nothing.

Paid ceremony packages (for couples who don't meet the room block minimum or want a higher tier) range from $2,500 to $8,000 depending on resort and inclusions.

Upgrades on top of the complimentary package

  • Floral upgrades: $1,500 – $4,000
  • Custom cocktail menu for cocktail hour: $1,500 – $3,000
  • Private reception dinner (vs semi-private): $2,000 – $6,000
  • Outside photographer vendor fee: $450 – $800
  • Hair and makeup: $400 – $900
  • Entertainment (DJ, band, fire dancers): $800 – $3,500

The couple's own room

Depending on the room block size, the couple's room is often discounted or provided complimentary by the resort. At most 5-star properties a 7-night stay in a junior suite runs $3,500 – $6,000 before any complimentary arrangement.

Best for understanding: A realistic total out-of-pocket cost for the couple at a 5-star Mexico resort with 40–80 guests is $8,000 – $18,000. This is significantly less than the average US wedding cost of $35,000+.

Guest costs

Each guest pays for their own room and travel. All-inclusive room rates at 5-star Mexico resorts typically run $180 – $380 per person per night based on double occupancy. For a 5-night stay that's $900 – $1,900 per person for accommodation and all food and drink — often less than a guest would spend attending a traditional home wedding when you factor in hotels, travel, and the open bar.

What affects the total most

  • Season — November through March (high season) runs 20–35% more expensive than May through October
  • Day of the week — Friday and Saturday ceremonies command a premium at most resorts; Thursday slots can save $500–$1,500
  • Guest count relative to room block — more guests in the block means more leverage on the couple's own room rate and package inclusions
  • Resort tier — the difference between a 4-star and 5-star all-inclusive in Mexico is meaningful in both price and experience
