Cancun has more daily direct flights from the US than anywhere else in Mexico, with strong connections from virtually every major US city including East Coast, Midwest, and West Coast hubs. For couples whose guests are spread across the country, no destination reduces the travel friction as effectively.
From budget all-inclusives under $150 per room per night to AAA Five Diamond adults-only properties, the Cancun hotel zone offers more meaningful price tiers than any other destination we work with. Whatever your guests can comfortably spend, there is a strong resort option at that level.
The legal wedding process in Cancun is well-handled by resort coordinators who do this hundreds of times a year. Required documents, blood test timing, and civil registry coordination are all managed by the resort team from the moment your venue is booked. Most couples find the process much simpler than expected.
When is the best time to plan a wedding in Cancun?
November through April is peak season and the most reliable window for weather, dry, sunny, and in the high 70s to low 80s. Resort prices are higher during this period and popular dates fill up fast, so aim to book at least 12 to 18 months out.
May through October brings lower resort rates but higher humidity and a greater chance of rain. June through September is technically hurricane season, though serious storms affecting Cancun directly are uncommon. If budget is a priority and you are flexible on timing, late May or early June can offer excellent value.
Avoid September and October if weather reliability matters to you as these are statistically the rainiest months in Cancun.

What are the legal requirements of getting married in Cancun?
If you are planning a legal ceremony in Cancun, here is what you will need to arrange before travelling. Valid passports and tourist cards for both partners. Birth certificates for both partners, typically notarised and with an official translation into Spanish. A premarital blood test for both partners, completed no more than 15 days before the ceremony. Four witnesses who are also travelling with valid passports and tourist cards. Divorce or death certificates if either partner has been previously married.
Your resort's on-site wedding coordinator handles all the local documentation and will send you a detailed checklist as soon as your venue is booked. Many couples choose a symbolic ceremony at the resort and complete their legal marriage at home, which is equally valid and significantly simpler logistically.

How far is Playa Mujeres from Cancun airport?

Is Cancun a good place for a destination wedding?
Cancun is the most popular destination wedding location for US couples in Mexico, and for good reason. It has more direct flights from the US than anywhere else in the country, the widest range of all-inclusive resorts at every price point, and a well-established wedding industry that makes both the logistics and the legal requirements straightforward. If you are not sure where to start with a destination wedding, Cancun is almost always the first conversation.
Can non-US guests attend a Cancun destination wedding?
Yes. Most nationalities can enter Mexico visa-free for tourist stays, including guests from the EU, UK, Canada, and Australia. Some nationalities require a visa in advance. We advise on this as part of the planning process to make sure all your guests can travel without issues.
When is the best time of year for a Cancun destination wedding?
November through April is peak season and the most reliable weather window, dry, sunny, and in the high 70s to low 80s. Popular dates fill up 12 to 18 months in advance during this period. May through June offers good weather at lower rates. July and August are hot and humid. September and October are statistically the rainiest and highest-risk months for weather disruption.
What is the best area in Cancun for a destination wedding?
The Cancun hotel zone stretches 14 miles along a barrier island between the Caribbean Sea and the Nichupté Lagoon. Most wedding resorts sit in the northern or southern sections of the strip. For adults-only luxury, the northern end near Le Blanc and Hyatt Zilara offers the most options. For family-friendly mega-resorts, the southern end around Moon Palace is strongest. Playa Mujeres, 10 miles north of the hotel zone, offers a quieter premium alternative.
Do you need a tourist visa to get married in Cancun?
No. US citizens do not need a visa to enter Mexico as tourists. You receive a tourist card on arrival which covers stays of up to 180 days. No additional entry requirements for a symbolic or legal ceremony in Cancun.
What is the difference between Cancun and the Riviera Maya?
Cancun is the hotel zone, a 14-mile strip of large all-inclusive resorts with maximum accessibility and resort variety. The Riviera Maya stretches south from Cancun through Playa del Carmen and toward Tulum, with smaller boutique resorts, more jungle, cenotes, and a more intimate atmosphere. Cancun is better for large groups and budget flexibility. The Riviera Maya is better for couples who want a more curated, nature-integrated experience.
