Why a destination wedding

Alex and Shawn live in different states from much of their family. Fifty percent of their guests were already going to have to travel no matter what. Once that was settled, Mexico was an easy call — they love the culture, the beach, and the food. If everyone was making a trip, it should be worth making.

Choosing the resort

Jared and the Vacationeeze team walked them through options. They were drawn to SLS Playa Mujeres because it was new, smaller in scale, and had a personality that matched theirs — not a mega-resort, but still with the full luxury infrastructure behind it. "Jared's suggestions really helped. The most stressful part for me was choosing a resort."

The ceremony and reception

The ceremony was at Central Beach, followed by a cocktail hour in the same space as dusk came in. The reception moved to Jungle Beach — and that was the moment. Dancing in the sand, at night, surrounded by 40 people who had all made the trip to be there. "Dancing the night away in the sand at our reception" is how Alex describes what she remembers most.

"Find a travel agent you like and then trust their expertise." Alex says the hardest part of destination wedding planning is choosing a resort — and Jared made that manageable. Once the venue was locked, the rest followed.
